HOW TO FASTEN SANDWICH PANELS

Sandwich panel screw fastening systems for roofs and walls

Hilti sandwich panel screw fastening system

WHAT IS A SANDWICH PANEL

A sandwich panel consists of two metal sheets with a core of either material wool or hard foam inserted - “sandwiched” - in between them.

They’re used in building and construction for insulation and for fire protection. There are 2 key applications:

  • Walls - fastening sandwich panels to walls and siding
  • Roofs - fastening sandwich panels to roof substructures and overlaps

They can be fastened so they are either visible or concealed and can be fixed to steel or wood. When choosing a screw fastening for sandwich panels, it’s important to take into account the:

  • Corrosive environment
  • Load values
  • Approval requirements
  • How to achieve a tight fastening - to prevent any water leaking into the structure

OUR SOLUTIONS FOR SANDWICH PANEL FASTENING

We offer a wide range of tools, bits, screw fasteners and accessories for attaching sandwich panels.

Our fasteners can install sandwich panels to both roofs and walls, to thick or thin metal, wood and cast-in channels.

They come in a variety of materials and coatings to resist a wide range of corrosive environments.

They also have approvals to match local building requirements worldwide and can be customized to match the color you need.

Choose from:

  • Self-drilling screws - 1 step fastening for steel > 12 mm and wood
  • Self-tapping screws - for fastening to steel, wood and HTU cast-in channels
  • Stitching screws - chipless screws for fastening overlapping roof sandwich panels, designed to provide a highly effective seal
  • Concealed or visible - our screws can be installed hidden or visible

We also offer a wide range of accessories including:

  • Setting tools - steel and metal screw drivers
  • Inserts - magnetic and mechanic nutsetters
  • Washers - in a range of sizes from 12 mm to 29 mm
  • Saddle washers - designed to improve the tightness and durability of a fastening point and limit the risk of damage to the base material. They come in a range of sizes.

BIM data is also available for all our sandwich panel screw fasteners in our Hilti BIM/CAD Library.
